5 Things That Just Make Sense in My Daughters’ Shared Room

One of my most requested organizational solutions: closets! With closets coming in every shape and size, it can be overwhelming to know how to utilize the space in an efficient way. My 7- and 5-year-old daughters share a room and closet. Here are the top five things in their shared room and closet that just make sense!

1) Hung Labels to Divide and Categorize Their Clothes

One of my favorite resources for closets are hanging dividers that I add a label to. This is a great solution if you have two children sharing a closet, or if you just want to divide by season or size. This allows you to divide left to right, no matter how many rows you are working with.

These closet dividers come in a set of 30. I then used my label maker (label tape can be found here) to keep the labels tidy!

2) Shelving Dividers

Most things both hanging and stored on shelves are divided left to right or top to bottom. I typically don’t use shelving units for shoes; instead, I’ll add a few clear shelf dividers to maximize the space even more. For my daughters’ closet, we use these to store sweatshirts, sweatpants, and denim. Each section of the shelf is then labeled again with each girl’s name.

3) Drawer Systems

Another great way to maximize space: drawer systems. We use these particularly in their closets to organize any special activity or sports clothing. A must-have if you have a child in multiple activities!

4) Hooks

I love using these gold hooks at any opportunity - from bedrooms and closets to mudrooms and laundry rooms! For my daughters’ closet, we used these in the open space to hang up their dance bags. This is another must-have if your child is in sports or has specific bags. They are also great for backpacks!

5) Baskets for Additional Storage

For even more storage, add labeled baskets at the bottom of their closet. You can use these for seasonal favorites, socks, accessories, and so much more! They are easy to slide in and out of the closet and are strong but flexible, so you don’t have to worry about them collapsing in on each other.

BONUS TIP: Dresser Drawer Organization

I lastly like to divide kids’ dressers in half with their own sets of labels. These drawer dividers allow for jammies, leggings, or t-shirts to stay nice and tidy. This is a great resource for seasonal garments or smaller accessories that tend to get all jumbled up in a drawer.
